When it comes to building a Windows Web Hosting environment it’s the attention to detail that matters most. This may sound a little Greek at first and super tech savvy but it’s something that most system engineers overlook. Installing Windows on to a physical hard drive and running the web server off of the same SSD drive leads to major bottlenecks and we’ll describe why. Windows is constantly writing data to SSD drive for every event that occurs on the server, and for each website request the IIS service (web service) needs to read data from the SSD.

When you combine these two functions on the same disk your end result is delay or latency on the disk which results in reduced load times. To complication matters even worse SSD’s drives dont all act the same and perform better under different functions, ie some do better at writing where as others do better at reading. Because of this we we use separate SSD drives within our Windows Web Servers to ensure that the Windows Server Operating System doesn’t interfere with website data and website logs.
